How to organise financial documents for family emergencies

A practical checklist so your family can find accounts, policies, and papers when time is short — without relying on memory alone.

Note: DigiAmanat helps you organise digital records and share selected portfolios with consent. Keep original legal documents in safe physical custody where required.

Start with a simple inventory

  • Bank accounts, FDs, RDs, and locker details
  • Demat, mutual fund folios, PPF, EPF, NPS
  • Life, health, and motor insurance policies
  • Home and other loans with EMI and lender contacts
  • Property papers, tax IDs, and key passwords or recovery methods (stored securely)
  • Who knows where the originals live

Make access intentional

Decide who should be able to see what during travel, hospitalisation, or other stress. Consent-based sharing beats informal WhatsApp screenshots that go stale or leak.

Review on a cadence

Update after major life events and at least once a year: new loans, matured FDs, changed nominees, new policies. An outdated list creates false confidence.
